There’s also the matter of a bad sample I discovered. #TESSITURA PRO MAC OSX UPGRADE#I suspect they will recommend a RAM upgrade at the very least. I’m still awaiting feedback from EW support about PLAY’s performance issues on my system. As far as I know, $80 won't buy me software upgrades, so I guess my decision has to be add 2GB of RAM and 1-2 DK: Good to know there’s a fellow PLAY user here. So, I guess adding at least one more drive would also be advised. The EW guys recommended I run my system, projects, and samples on 3 different drives, and I’ve gotten that advice here as well. software upgrades, I guess it comes down to whatever is going to enable me to do my choir and string orchestration with the best performance and fewest hiccups. RAM seems a must, so that’s $80 right there. Seems I have some decisions to make, and only $250 to make those decisions with. My budget ceiling is $250.īoth those Samsung and WD drives look highly rated, and the Samsung is priced well. Glyphs look wonderful, but are WAY out of budget for me right now. Please bear in mind that I’m presently unemployed. Would this be a good solution for me? If there is a better solution, please let me know. That would give me a RAM upgrade and 2 additional internal drives (one for Logic projects, one for sample libraries) for $250. I also found 2 Seagate Barracuda 1 TB Internal hard drives (300 MBps - 7200 rpm) for $85 ea. That said, I found pricing of 2GB of RAM for $80 that would upgrade me to 4GB total. That said, I’ve been told that I can upgrade my RAM to only 4GB with any benefit on a 32-bit system. I’m presuming there are some issues there with the 64-bit technology, and I understand that EW has been slow to resolve this. Maybe the wiser question would be what's the best way to improve my system for under $250?Īfter doing some research, let me ask this:įirst of all, I'm putting off the upgrade of both OS and Logic because I’m an EW Symphonic Choirs user, and I’ve read many complaints from those trying to run the EW PLAY engine plugin in conjunction with Snow Leopard and/or Logic 9. The reason I’m thinking external hard drive is the mobility - that I will be able to use it with a laptop later. I don’t want to sink a lot of $$ into my MacPro as (1) it will be (and is when I get freelance work) my graphic design workstation, (2) I don't have a lot of $$ to spare right now, and (3) the goal is to ultimately move to something mobile for my music work. Recently, however, my band work has taken me into the area of orchestration for choir and strings, and my needs are changing. Just doing vocal work and now unemployed and knee deep in the recession, there was no real need or resources to upgrade. I got set up with Logic, an interface, and mic fall of 2008. I had not even learned music production at the time or foresaw the need for a music studio. That was my day job at the time (and will be again when I find a job). I purchased my MacPro spring 2007 strictly for art direction and graphic design. I suppose I should clarify my situation a bit better.
